RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Vacation/holiday leave: 2 weeks  

Education/conference leave: designated amount of funding is allotted to each of the residents, to be applied to conferences of their interest (i.e. ASHP Midyear, CSHP AGM, CSHP PPC

Program highlights: The residency is a unique self-directed program with guidance and information sources provided. The residents must establish objectives and use a problem-solving approach to meet their goals.

Required Rotations:

Drug Distribution (6-8 weeks)
Drug Information (3 weeks)
Critical Appraisal/Health Research Methods Rotation (4-5 weeks)
Practice Management & Drug Use Control (longitudinal over 4-6 months)
Teaching Skills Rotation (Longitudinal over 10 months)

Elective Rotations:

Cardiology (4 weeks)
Chronic Pain Program (Ambulatory) (3 weeks)
Family Health Team (3 weeks)
Geriatric Assessment & Rehabilitation Unit (3 weeks)
GI Disorders & Parenteral Nutrition (1 week experience or 3 weeks rotation) Infectious Diseases (4 weeks)
ICU - Adult (4 weeks), Pediatric (4 weeks)
Internal Medicine – Adult (4 weeks; option to complete an additional 4 weeks at end of program) Integrated Stroke Unit (3 weeks)
Neonatal ICU (1 week experience or 3 weeks rotation)
Neurosciences (3 weeks)
Adult Hematology/Oncology Inpatient and ambulatory settings (1 week experience or 3 weeks rotation)
Palliative Care (1 week)
Pediatrics – General (3 weeks)
Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology (3 weeks)
Rehabilitation populations (1 week experience or 3 weeks rotation)

Other clinical specialties:

  • Experiences or rotations in anesthesia, cystic fibrosis, family medicine, outpatient pharmacy, thromboembolism, research (study design, randomization, blinding, quality assurance)
  • In partnership with St. Joseph ’s Healthcare ( Hamilton ), available rotations are: emergency medicine, medication assessment clinic, nephrology, acute respirology, psychiatry
  • Off-site electives may be arranged by the resident at specialized institutions, eg. Centre for Addiction and Mental Health ( Toronto ), Regional Poison Information Centre, Sioux Loukout Zone Hospital.

Minimum required credentials: B.Sc.Pharm.
