Banff Seminar 2020

Banff Seminar Cancellation

Dear delegates, speakers, sponsors and invited guests,

The Canadian Society of Hospital (CSHP) Pharmacists Banff Seminar Planning Committee has been in deliberations with CSHP National and the provincial branch in light of recent concerns around COVID-19. Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared a pandemic.

At this time, we are cancelling the 2020 Banff Conference. The conference will NOT take place as planned. Information is rapidly changing around COVID-19 and ultimately, the safety of our delegates and staff at Banff Centre is of the utmost importance to us.

Room reservations are being cancelled as a block to avoid charges to delegates - you will not be required to cancel individually unless you were booked outside of the block. If you choose to stay at the Banff Centre this weekend, you will be responsible for rebooking with the Centre at an individual rate. We are working alongside the Banff Centre to enact this change and will be communicating on other specific cancellation procedures shortly.

46th Annual CSHP Western Branches Banff Seminar at the Banff Centre in Alberta

Welcome Message

Welcome to the 2020 Banff Seminar! Our Planning Committee is excited to have you attend the 46th Annual CSHP Western Branches Banff Seminar, taking place in Banff, Alberta, from March 13-15th, 2020. Our theme is “20/20 Vision”. In 2020, we are looking back at what we have accomplished as a profession (as hindsight is 20/20) and getting swept away into the Roaring 20s, a time of significant change across our profession and within our institutions. Technological advances are abundant, change management is imperative, and like always, patient safety is at the forefront of everything we do. We have much to celebrate so what better venue to unite with peers, colleagues, and team members at Banff to share our successes, challenges and grow together as a profession.

Our educational program is fabulous once again. Friday will feature discussions on preceptor pearls and the impact of climate change on health, as well as our highly anticipated panel discussion on professional abstinence. The evening will wrap up with a Friday night social event that you won’t want to miss! Saturday morning, you will hear our keynote speaker, Dr. Lisa Belanger, share insights from behavioral science research and how this can be applied in the workplace to optimize the performance, productivity, and innovation of leaders and teams. Once again, we will have facilitated posters on Saturday to feature the excellent research that our colleagues are taking part in. Saturday will conclude with a banquet, followed by a shorter Sunday program. As always, we are seeking CCCEP accreditation for all of our educational sessions.

This event would not be possible without the dedication of the 16 volunteers who work diligently to ensure that Banff Seminar continues to be a leading pharmacy conference for hospital practitioners. Join me in extending a huge thank you to the Banff Seminar Planning Committee for their hard work, creativity, and collegiality. If you are interested in being part of the planning, please contact a current committee member.

Moreover, I would also like to thank our industry partners for their continued support of the Banff Seminar. Their sponsorship enables Banff to remain affordable for registrants, helps bring in some of the best speakers to benefit the education of our attendees, and makes the conference a huge success.

Finally, thank you to all of the pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students, and supporters that attend this conference! There is great value in the opportunity to network, share our journey, and learn from each other – made possible through your attendance annually at Banff Seminar.

See you in beautiful Banff, Alberta, this spring!
