CSHP Welcomes Christina Adams as Chief Pharmacy Officer

October, 17, 2019, OTTAWA—The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christina Adams as its inaugural Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO). As CPO, Christina is responsible and accountable for meeting the pharmacy and professional objectives within CSHP’s strategic plan. Christina will lead the Professional Practice team and be responsible for the development of CSHP’s suite of resources for CSHP members, policy positions, continuing education, best practices, consultations, research, and knowledge translation. Her team will support a variety of CSHP committees and task forces, as well as the work of the affiliated Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board and the Hospital Pharmacy in Canada Survey Board.

“This newly-created position is instrumental in shaping the future of pharmacy practice in hospitals and other related healthcare organizations in Canada. Christina will be addressing issues through program and content development on topics such as ideal staffing ratios for hospitals, pharmacy specialty networks (PSNs), and the Vision of Pharmacy Practice for CSHP,” says Jody Ciufo, CSHP’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are really thrilled to have her on board. Our members will see an improved Professional Development Program take shape over the next year.”

Christina’s experience with CSHP began early in her career, marking several inaugural milestones for the Society. As a student member in 2005, Christina secured the first-ever summer student intern position with CSHP. She continued her forefront presence with the Society by participating in the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) Pharmacy Leadership Academy (PLA) in 2011-2012.  Having Myrella Roy, retired CSHP Executive Director, as her mentor for this program increased its exposure within CSHP. This resulted in the CSHP Foundation offering an Educational Scholarship for one CSHP member every year to attend the PLA, since Christina completed the program. Christina has been involved with CSHP in a volunteer capacity as well, beginning with the Ontario provincial branch as Chapter Chair, then President, and at the National level as an Ontario Delegate and Chair of the Pharmacy Technician Task Force. She also served as a Board Member of the Pembroke Regional Hospital from 2012-2015. More recently, she sat on the CSHP Board of Directors as Treasurer where she effectively managed the financial stewardship of the Society.

In her new role as CPO, Christina will draw from her professional management experience, including working as Pharmacy Manager at the Cornwall Community Hospital, a 160-bed hospital. Christina also worked as a hospital telepharmacist with Northwest Telepharmacy Solutions, where she was responsible for the clinical review of patients’ medication orders as well as for providing pharmacy administrative oversight to several small hospitals in Ontario. Christina is fluently bilingual in English and French.
